Bundesliga deprives Premier League of fifth Champions League spot next season

The Bundesliga is celebrating. After Borussia Dortmund's 1-0 win over PSG on Wednesday, it was confirmed that the German league has won an extra ticket for the next Champions League. In this way, German football was mathematically assured of the fifth place awarded by UEFA due to the expansion of the tournament for the 2024-25 season.

In the midst of the first leg of the Champions League and Europa League, the whole of Germany was watching the performances of their teams: Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen. The scores were clear from the outset and they came out on top without needing Xabi Alonso's side.

Thomas Tuchel's side, who hosted Real Madrid at the Allianz Arena, were held to a 2-2 draw by 'Los Blancos'. With that result, Germany were dependent on a win for Edin Terzic's side against PSG to secure that extra place in the Champions League. It was all said and done.

The 'Aurinegros', thanks to a goal from Fullkrug, gave the Parisians a shock in the first leg and spread joy across German football. Stuttgart and RB Leipzig, third and fourth in the Bundesliga respectively, automatically booked their place in the continental competition, as did Dortmund. All three teams were in contention for Champions League places - BVB were fifth - and all of them will be in the next edition.

Thanks to the addition of the relevant points from that draw and that win, Germany, who are 2nd, went from 17,928 points to 18,357 points. The best possible score for France is now 18,053 and 18,250 for England. Therefore, the German country gained another place, something that was confirmed two weeks ago by Italy.
