Joao Neves has been linked with a possible move to Manchester United this week. His contract with the Estadio da Luz outfit runs until 2028 and he has a £103million release clause.
Benfica have issued a statement denying they have held talks with Manchester United over a possible move for the young Portuguese star.
"Sport Lisboa e Benfica denies the existence of any right of preference over its player Joao Neves. Under no circumstances did Sport Lisboa e Benfica enter into talks with Manchester United or any other club about this player from their formation – nor does it intend to do so – so any information that points in another direction is false," Benfica said in an official statement released on Tuesday.
The 19-year-old has established himself as a top player in the Portuguese league with 29 appearances this season. He is a key player for Benfica and his coach who does not want him or any of his teammates to leave the club.
"We are halfway through the season and we have big goals. We certainly won't let any of these players leave. We need them and no one wants to leave, so there's no question," he said.
