Joshua Kimmich's contract with Bayern Munich expires next year and he is not closing doors for the future. That is where Barcelona, one of his main suitors, comes in. For months now, the possible signing of the midfielder under Thomas Tuchel, who leaves the german side on June 30th, has been mentioned in the Catalan press, which, on Monday, reports that he has rejected a first approach from the Catalan giants.
'Sport' reports that the German's salary is around 20 million euros per season, a figure that is too high for the Catalan side to meet. Moreover, their moves in the transfer market are subject to the club being able to stick to the recurring 1:1 rule. In fact, even if this were to be confirmed, it would be necessary to wait for Joan Laporta's board to close a sale or rescission.
At the moment, the salary demands of the former Red Bull Leipzig and Stuttgart player are too far from what Barcelona are proposing. In addition to the potential cost of his wages, to make matters worse for the 'Cules' budgets, it would be necessary to add the transfer fee that would have to be paid to the Allianz Arena outfit to get rid of a figure who has been a key figure since, at just 21 years of age, he joined their squad for 8.5 million euros.
Kimmich has never played fewer than 36 games a season, suggesting a powerful physique and world-class quality. This summer, he will be one of the stars of the German national team's push for the European Championship on home soil. Another highlight for Julian Nagelsmann's side is the return of Toni Kroos, who came out of international retirement for a last dance with the 'Mannschaft'.
