Scottish champions Glasgow City headed to the Mini Estadi on Thursday hoping to make history, as they went with the intention of putting in a strong away performance, in the first leg of their round of 16 tie with Barcelona Femeni.
However the subsequent fixture seemed not to have read the Scottish script; Barcelona completely thrashed Glasgow City by five goals to nil, effectively ending the tie with 90 minutes still left to play.
First half efforts from Kheira Hamraoui , Aitana Bonmati and Patricia Guijarro saw the Catalans cruise into the interval with a commanding lead. Then, as if Glasgow City did not have enough of a mountain to climb, Andressa Alves and Maria Leon added two more to the tally, to make the score 5-0.

The Scottish club had only advanced past this current stage of the competition once before, but after this first leg drubbing, it looks like they will have to wait yet another year.
Barcelona were without star players Lieke Martens and Toni Duggan, albeit latter was available from the bench, but still showed their qualities, and were simply a level above the visitors.
Glasgow will feel like they could have at least challenged their hosts a lot more, with keeper Lee Alexander gifting Barcelona their second goal by failing to catch a simple effort on goal from the left hand side, subsequently dropping the ball into her own net.
The Scots will now turn their attentions to their SWPL (Scottish Women's Premier League) clash with title rivals Hibernian at the weekend; knowing a win will see them crowned champions, an ideal tonic to help forget their Women's Champions League woes.
