Barca officially announce deal with Spotify

The sponsorship agreement between Barcelona and Spotify has now been ratified by the club's members and now it will come into effect from next season. Several members of the club, including Joan Laporta, explained the basic figures of the deal although they did not reveal the exact amounts for confidentality purposes. However, the club are expected to receive around 280 million euros. There were 625 votes for the deal, 49 against and 27 blank votes.

"We've reached an agreement with Spotify, the most powerful music platform in the world. A strategic alliance. Spotify will be on the first of the men's and women's first team shirts from next season for the next four campaigns. It will also be on the training shirts for three seasons," Laporta explained.

"The Spotify name will be associated with our stadium for the next 12 seasons at least, converting our facilities into an experience open to the city of Barcelona. Spotify's agreement is better financially than any of the other deals Barca have had on their shirt. It's the best shirt sponsorship deal Barca have had in their entire history," he added.

The beginning of the assembly was delayed because of technical problems, but, in the end, 730 'socios' (club members) managed to join in. 32 had only been able to join before the issues were resolved. This was the first remote assembly held in the history of the club and that is why there were some complications. 

As well as a presentation to explain all the consequences of the agreement - involvement of players in advertising campaigns, the brand's presence on the shirts... there was also time for questions which saw the board answer the questions of those present.
