Barca can register Koeman as coach despite Setien legal action

Ronald Koeman will be able to be on the bench for Barcelona in the club's La Liga opener despite Quique Setien claiming he is due to be given his redundancy payment. 

That is what 'Mundo Deportivo' said after consulting experts in sports law. Apparently, the obiligation to have all payments to a sacked coach settled before registering a replacement is no longer in the RFEF's rules. 

Now, there is no condition for bringing in a new coach. In other words, the Spanish FA should be able to register Ronald Koeman as the Barca coach without any problem, 'Mundo Deportivo' says. 

What is true is that the Barca board have until 30th June 2021 to resolve the issue or at least guarantee that they will pay Setien the money at a later date. 

If the conflict with the former coach has not been resolved by then, the club would have problems in registering Koeman for the 2021-22 campaign. 

It remains to be seen what action Setien decides to take. If he goes to the Spanish FA's Jurisdictional Committee, the verdict could be announced in a month's time. If he decides to go to court, it would take longer, but it should not affect Ronald Koeman.
