Arsenal managed to take all three points against a Zurich side that fought until the last minute. Arteta's side needed the win to qualify as group winners for the last 16 of the Europa League and avoid the teams relegated from the Champions League at the group stage and they got it.
The Gunners dominated the first 45 minutes and created several chances. Zurich tried to make it difficult for Arsenal to get the ball out of their half with their high pressing in the opening minutes but gradually the Londoners managed to gain control and keep possession of the ball.
Tierney scored the opnening goal in the 17th minute. White's cross from the left flank found Vieira on the edge of the box but the midfielder's shot was blocked by Kamberi. The rebound fell to Tierney, who beat Brecher with a superb shot across the face of goal and gave his team the lead at the Emirates Stadium.
The second half had a very slow pace and both teams were very inaccurate in their passing and there were few chances. However, Zurich came close to putting Arteta's team in trouble after Guerrero scored the equaliser in the 68th minute. However, the Spaniard had put the ball into the net offside and the goal was disallowed.
