Antonio Valencia detailed how he made the switch from winger to full-back during his time at Manchester United. The 36-year-old Ecuadorian will take part in the Red Devils legends' charity match against Liverpool at Old Trafford on Saturday 21st May.
On that day, the South American will have the chance to put his boots back on, playing in the role he played during the latter stages of his career when Sir Alex Ferguson was still in charge of the Manchester club.
In an interview ahead of next weekend's derby, Valencia explained why his change of position soon became a trend-setter, as players such as Ashley Young ended up following in his footsteps.
"It's a very complicated role. You have to be very fit to go up and down all the time and, above all, keep your concentration. Nowadays, a lot of players are making this same transition, and I'm happy to have been one of the first," he said.
"It's been three years since I've been to Manchester and I'm looking forward to meeting the fans again. I'm fit at the moment, as I'm still playing a lot, so I hope I don't get tired too soon so I can run all over the pitch," he added enthusiastically.
All proceeds from the benefit match on 21st May will go to the Manchester United Foundation, as announced by the English club.
