A clear goal. Captura/GOL

The scoreline read 2-0 and Mali had the chance to pile pressure on the Spaniards with a thunderous strike, but the goal was not given by the referees.

Doucoure unleashed a belter from 25 yards and it ricocheted off the underside of the crossbar, bounced over the goal line and out. The subsequent header was sent wide.

The footage showed the ball had clearly gone over the line, but it was not given by the officials. VAR was not even an option after FIFA dismissed it for the Under 17 World Cup in India.

Not even the referees at the byline saw that the ball had clearly entered. Despite Mali's protests, the scoreline remained unaltered.
