'We feel confident we can beat anyone'
England defender Phil Jones says that the squad are confident that they can beat anyone, and are not worrying about who they will meet in the World Cup last 16.
Thursday will see England face off against Belgium in their last group stage match of the tournament.
The match will decide who will top the group, with two different paths mapped out to the final depending on who wins.
If Brazil win their Group and Germany come second in Group F, England would meet one of them in the quarter-finals, provided they win their first knockout match.
By finishing second, England are more likely to meet Mexico or Switzerland.
Jones, who hasn't had any game time so far, will be hoping that Thursday's game could be his chance, as both England and Belgium look to rotate their squad.
The defender is adamant that Southgate isn't spending time plotting an easier route to the final, telling Sky Sports:
"We haven't thought like that. It's about what we're going to do and how we approach each game."
"I don't think there's been any focus on the teams we could face in the knockouts."
"We feel confident we can beat anyone and whoever we get we'll be preparing right."
Ruben Loftus-Cheek is the only player to have broken into Southgate's preferred starting eleven, after replacing Dele Alli due to injury.
However Jones said that England substitutes, "celebrated every goal like we were on the pitch" during England's euphoric 6-1 win over Panama.
He's hoping that he won't be a substitute for much longer:
"It's all about taking chances," he said. "If I do get that chance, and hopefully I do, then I'll give it my best shot and hopefully give the manager some headaches."
