Their last game, which was in the Copa Libertadores, ended in narrow defeat at the hands of Flamengo. Gabriel opened the scoring for the visitors after just three minutes, and Bruno Henrique made it two on the half hour mark.

Liga de Quinto weren't dead and buried, and fought back to 2-2 thanks to goals from Martinez Borja and Amarilla on 50 and 61 minutes. A late Gabriel penalty broke the home side's hearts, converting after 85 minutes to make it 2-3.

Liga will be hoping for more luck against Independiente in their first match in the Ecuadorian First Division.
