Jan Vertonghen extended his Tottenham Hotspur contract until the end of the current season. When it finishes he will be free to choose his next destination, and that could be Pep Guardiola's Manchester City.

He is 33. He's not a kid but Jan Vertonghen could be a luxury substitute for Guardiola when the starters fail. That's how some people see it in the Premier League.

The 'Times' says that Pep Guardiola himself has reportedly given the all-clear to the deal, so City would have a clear path to contact Tottenham's Belgium defender.

His contract expired on 30th June, but he agreed with Spurs to extend it until the end of the season which is just around the corner.

Jan Veronghen started at Ajax and took the leap to the Premier League in 2012 with Tottenham, but after eight seasons at the London club, their paths are called to separate.

He has played 314 matches with Spurs until now, in which he has scored 14 of his 45 career goals as a professional footballer, some of them beauties.
