Vermaelen suffered an injury in Belgium's clash with Switzerland and his reaction showed he feared the worst as he moved straight for the back of his right thigh. No evidence has yet been submitted, but doctors feel he could have suffered a ruptured femoral bicep.

If this is proved true, 'Blaugrana' centre-back Vermaelen will be set for around four weeks on the sidelines.

However, so far, this is all just speculation. According to 'AS', we will find out the full extent of the injury on Monday, as the player undergoes medical tests with Barcelona.

Neither the Belgian team doctors nor the player himself seem particularly optimistic. Barca, 'AS' point out, will already have a report from Belgium's medical tests and they believe he has a ruptured femoral bicep. The full degree of the rupture, however, is unknown.

Considering Vermaelen's past injuries, the 32-year-old would need between three and four weeks to recover.

This comes as more bad news for Barcelona, who have been experiencing problems in defence from the start of this campaign.
