VAR is in football to correct refereeing mistakes and to clear up situations which are almost impossible for the human eye like in the goal disallowed for Santa Mina.

There are times that even with technology there are decisions which are very very complex. It was what happened at Mendizorroza in the game between Alaves and Celta. The Galician side scored, saw how the referee overruled his linesman to give a goal before it was finally disallowed again.

It all occurred in just three minutes. Rafinha, on the counter, took time in passing the ball to his right to Aspas. The Celta captain touched the ball to give it to Santi Mina, who scored despite being offside.

The debate was over Aspas. As well as him touching the ball, Duarte was also close to touching it as well. After a few mins and various replays, Aspas was the one who got the touch to it and the VAR took away the goal.

The match was still 0-0 at that time. Minutes later, Joselu missed a sitter from insdie the six yard box before the referee gave Alaves a phantom penalty after the ball struck Rafinha on the face. The VAR was not having any of it and the penalty was annulled.
