Before their first ever Bundesliga match, there was an emotive moment among the Union Berlin fans. The stadium fell silent and all the fans raised their scarves in the air. And among them, there were also many photographs. They were photos of fans of the club who had died before they could see their team play in the Bundesliga.

It was a tribute to those who are no longer with us. For those that used to go every weekend to the Stadion An der Alten Försterei to support their team. For those that went when they were a great team in the DDR Oberliga and for those that stuck with them when the club was in serious trouble after reunification.

This tribute took place prior to the Bundesliga game against Leipzig, a club which is much newer and shows the commercial side of the sport.

The minute's silence was very emptional. The whole stadium rasied their scarves and many of them had black and photos. They were their loved ones who maybe even got them to support the team on the Eastern side of the German capital
