Athletic Club goalkeeper Unai Simon, who won the European Championship with the Spanish national team, will be out for a few “months” after undergoing surgery on his right wrist. The goalkeeper was treated for a “scaphoid-semilunar instability” that, according to the head of the club's medical services, they knew about since the beginning of last season.

Athletic Club's international goalkeeper Unai Simon has undergone surgery “without notable incidents” on the injury he suffered in his right wrist and is expected to be discharged on Friday, according to the Basque club.

The operation performed at the Hospital de La Luz in Madrid by Dr. Piñal has solved a “scaphoid-semilunar instability” of the right wrist that, as revealed on Wednesday the head of the medical services of Athletic, Josean Lekue, had been identified since the beginning of last season.

Lekue also advanced that Simon's recovery period will be “months”, an undetermined period that can be determined once the intervention has been carried out.

It is a localized injury in one hand and we have to hope that during rehabilitation he will be able to do much more work than in other types of surgery,” the Athletic doctor also explained.
