Cristiano Ronaldo suffered homophobic insults during Hungary versus Portugal while Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema had monkey chants hurled at them also in Budapest.

UEFA have opened an investigation to determine whether some Hungarian fans made homophobic comments about Cristiano Ronaldo in Hungary versus Portugal. They are also investigating whether several French players such as Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema were racially abused in Hungary v France. Both games were in Group F of the Euros.

Apparently, according to a reporter from 'DPA' who was at the game, monkey chants were heard every time Kylian Mbappe touched the ball. Karim Benzema, who has Algerian roots, was also insulted.

Hungary have been punished in the past by footballing authorities because of racism by their fans. In the next matchday, Hungary will play away to Germany and the Munich authorities have asked for the Allianz Arena to be lit up in rainbow colours for the game.

In the first game at the Puskas Arena, Cristiano was called a homosexual on more than one occasion. The Portuguese star responded by scoring his two goals by putting his finger to his lips. That gesture went viral on social media.
