Bury have offered Trippier an award following his World Cup performance, offering him freedom of his hometown of Bury as commendation.

Trippier became only the third England player to score in a World Cup semi-final after his free-kick put the 'Three Lions' up 1-0 against Croatia.

Winning was not meant to be, as Croatia clawed back a goal, before scoring again in extra time.

However, Trippier has been regarded as one of the standout players of the tournament.

Because of this, Bury Town Council have decided to award him with a civic honour in the town where he grew up.

"Kieran and his England team-mates have given a huge amount of joy for local people with their incredible performances during the World Cup," Bury Council leader Rishi Shori told the 'Guardian.'

"To reach the semi-final for only the third time in England’s history is an amazing achievement. I was nine years the old the last time it happened – I am a lot older now."

The councilman added: "Kieran himself was outstanding, scoring a penalty in the shootout with Colombia and of course that unforgettable free kick against Croatia. He is now only third Englishman to have scored in a World Cup semi and certainly the first from Bury."

"He deserves to be acknowledged. He is a huge role model to younger people and hopefully can inspire the next generation of footballers in Bury."

Trippier has not yet commented on the offer, but if he were to accept the honour, he would join other big names, such as film director Danny Boyle, Jill Neville, a former councilwoman and mother to Phil and Gary Neville, as well as England netball head coach Tracey Neville.

Shori also commented that he was working with the Lancashire FA and Football Foundation to build 3G pitches in order to creat a 'positive legacy' following Trippier's involvement with the World Cup.
