Middlesbrough winger Adama Traore is undergoing a medical with Wolves ahead of a club-record deal after the Black Country outfit decided to invoke the £18m release clause in his contract.

The Spaniard had been heavily linked with a move away from the Teessiders this summer, with his departure only delayed by Boro's insistence that the clause be paid in full up front.

The deal will make the 22-year-old Wolves' record signing, beating the £16m paid for Ruben Neves last summer.

Traore missed Middlesbrough's 2-2 draw with Millwall on Saturday due to a shoulder injury picked up during a pre-season clash with local rivals Sunderland, but it is thought that problem is not as bad as first feared and will not prevent him from joining Wolves.

The glyink flanker racked up five goals and 12 assists in 36 Championship games last season as he found a new lease of life under Tony Pulis, but despite the club's best attempts to keep him he looks set to move to pastures new this summer.

Traore's electirc pace and deceptive close control mark him out as a unique talent and he will be no dubt desperate to reach his undoubted potential under Nuno Espirito Santoo.
