Manuel Neuer pulled no punches in his assessment of Germany's World Cup exit, branding their performances as "pathetic" and questioning their commitment.

The reigning world champions suffered a shock ealry exit on Wednesday as they lost 2-0 to South Korea and Neuer was in no mood for excuses following the game.

"We deserved to be eliminated. We didn't convince in any game. This was not the Germany we know. It was pathetic," he explained.

"We lacked commitment. Even if we had gone through, in the next round or the round afterwards, we'd have been knocked out.

"We had it in our own hands, but we did not make it. We need to analyse this and it has to be said very clearly that we just do not deserve it. Even after the three games, you have not seen in any game that there was a German team on the pitch, in front of which one has fear or respect.

"Even if we had made it in the last 16, everyone would have liked to play against us. How should we be dangerous to an opponent if we deliver such performances?

"If you win in the 95th minute against Sweden and in your other two games you don't create a single clear opportunity to score and don't put pressure on your opponent then you don't deserve to play in the knockout stages.

"I've always tried to take responsibility, always tried to take the team. In the locker room, during training and on the pitch. Of course, I am also responsible for it."
