It is rare that almost all of your title rivals give up hope in December, but following Manchester City's record-breaking 15th straight league win on Wednesday, plenty of sides have done just that. We take a look at the statistics behind Manchester City's incredible start to the season.

With 17 games played City have claimed 49 points, boast an 11-point lead over the team in second place and look set to break the record for the biggest lead in a title race at the halfway mark in a season.

City have dropped just two points all season, when Raheem Sterling scored a late equaliser at home to Everton back in August to seal a point for the 10 men of City.

Since that game, City have trailed for just 23 minutes in total, with Bournemouth (8 minutes), Huddersfield (2 minutes) and West Ham (13 minutes) all briefly taking the lead against Pep Guardiola's side.

City have three players in the top 10 scorers in the Premier League in the form of Sergio Aguero, Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling, which is perhaps no surprise when the club are the league's top scorers themselves with 52 goals, 15 ahead of arch-rivals Manchester United in second.

The bulk of those strikes have come late on, with no fewer than 13 goals coming after the 76th-minute mark.

Despite Guardiola's association with attacking football, his side also boast the joint-best defensive record in the division, having conceded just 11 goals so far this season.

Such has been City's rise in recent years that the club have more points after 17 games of this season than they managed in their entire 1995-96, 2000-01, 2003-04, 2005-06 and 2006-07 campaigns.

It is fair to say that those points have come at a cost though, with City's average starting lineup costing a whopping £395m, some £35.9m per player.

The victory over Swansea on Wednesday night meant that City now boast the longest winning run ever in the English top-flight (15 games), though they will also be hoping to claim the European record of 19, held by German side Bayern Munich.

As things stand, it is hard to see how anyone can stop them.
