Everyone at the Santiago Bernabeu is talking about Sergio Ramos. His future at Real Madrid is up in the air. According to 'AS', the main reason why the captain is turning down a new contract at the club is because he is being told to take a 10% pay cut.

Sergio Ramos' contract at Real Madrid is about to expire. If both parties do not reach an agreement, the central defender will leave the club in June 2021.

Real Madrid want the captain to stay, but under certain conditions. 'AS' says that Ramos is reportedly not very keen on accepting one of them. Both parties are quite far away from reaching an agreement at the moment.

According to the previously cited source, Real Madrid are reportedly asking Ramos to lower his salary. That reduction would be 10%.

But that reduction in his salary is not only going to be for Ramos. Because of the losses caused by COVID-19, the club are reportedly carrying out that reduction on all the first team players' salaries, as well as those of the B team, the basketball side and the board.

Ramos is reportedly not very happy about that. The Spaniard currently earns 12 million euros net a year. If he takes a 10% decrease, he would lose 1.2 million euros.

'AS' says the rest of the players in the squad are also not in favour of this measure. It has been talked about in the dressing room and they all apparently think the same.

In any case, talks with the club over this 10% pay cut have not yet begun. Madrid hope all their footballers will agree to the move, but they will need some persuading.
