Having lifted the Carabao Cup to clinch the first trophy of the Guardiola era, Manchester City are top of the Premier League and flying in Europe, and the players stand to pocket a generous reward if they can complete their charge.

Many clubs opt to reward their players's efforts with pool bonuses which are divided among the squad when a certain objective is reached, be it avoiding relegation or winning a trophy.

However, Manchester City chiefs favour huge financial incentives on top of their lucrative salaries. The decision looks to have paid off, with City potentially just four games away from replacing Chelsea, who they face on Sunday, as Premier League champions.

Pep Guardiola's men are 15 points clear at the top of the table with 10 games left to play and all but sealed their place in the quarter-finals of Europe's elite club competition, a trophy that would be the crown jewel of the hefty Qatari-backed investment, with a 4-0 first leg victory in Basel last month.

Lifting both trophies would complete a treble in only Guardiola's second season in charge at the Etihad. But not only that, the added silverware would also result in big bonuses for City's seniors stars at the end of the season.

As reported by the 'Sun', the club's big names will pocket up to £1m each should they follow up domestic glory with a win in the Champions League final on May 26.
