Sergio Ramos has claimed he understands why the Madrid fans have 'whistled and jeered' towards Cristiano Ronaldo this season, but remains adamant that the Portuguese star should use this as motivation to fight back and play well, instead of letting it get to him.
Ronaldo has been subject to jeers on various occasions this season, especially when Madrid struggled to find form at the beginning of the season, but Ramos has reminded the player that he isn't the first club legend to be subject to the hostile fan reception at the Santiago Bernabeu.
"I can understand that people whistle Cristiano. Why not? They have also whistled me, they whistled Manolo Sanchis, [Jose Antonio] Camacho, [the Brazilian] Ronaldo, [Zinedine] Zidane. The fans have whistled everyone," Ramos told COPE.
"There is always a reason for it when you get this kind of attention from the fans. You should always look at the positive side of things. The fans might think you can do a bit more and their whistles can lead to a reaction, to help you get the best out of yourself. And then everybody is happy again.
"I would never sell Cristiano, not for all the money in the world."
Ronaldo definitely hasn't been getting this abuse recently, with a string of fantastic performances, including the spectacular hat-trick which sent Real Madrid into the semi-finals of the Champions League.
