Scunthorpe have confirmed the appointment of Stuart McCall as their new manager, replacing Nick Daws who was sacked five games into the new season.

MCall will be assisted by Kenny Black, and Andy Dawson - who took charge of Saturday's match against Barnsley - will be retained as a first team coach.

"Scunthorpe United is delighted to announce Stuart McCall as the club's new first-team manager," the club said in a statement.

"The 54-year-old will be joined by Kenny Black, who will be the Iron's first-team assistant manager, and has previously worked with McCall at Motherwell, Rangers and Bradford City.

"We're also pleased to confirm Andy Dawson will remain at the club as first-team coach."

McCall has had mixed fortunes as a manager. He famously took Motherwell to the Champions League and celebrated in style, before two spells at Bradford.
