Brentford thrashed Rotherham 5-1 on Saturday to record their biggest opening-day win since 1994.

Brentford find themselves at the top of the Sky Bet Championship after an impressive win at Griffin Park against newly-promoted Rotherham.

The first-half saw Brentford pin back Rotherham, as Neal Maupay opened the scoring for the 'Bees' four minutes in. Sergi Canós then found the back of the net, followed by Ollie Watkins, who netted the third just after half-time.

Maupay grabbed the second of his brace on the hour and MacLeod scored to make it 5-0 from outside the area.

Will Vaulks pulled back a consolation goal for Rotherham who have failed to win on the opening day since 2011.

Brentford boss Dean Smith spoke of his excitement for the season, saying: "There is a lot of potential in this squad and the application and attitude throughout pre-season has been outstanding from a group of very young lads."
