Cristiano Ronaldo has hit some incredible form in 2018. Since the match against Levante, the Portuguese forward has been banging them in for fun. So much so, that he is catching up with rival Lionel Messi in the race for Spain's Golden Boot.

Ronaldo has always been hungry for goals. The Real Madrid striker, who had an unfortunate drought at the beginning of the season, has turned his situation around and now looks unstoppable.

He went from a balance of four goals in 14 games to 14 goals in eight games since the start of 2018, a record which has allowed him to gain great positioning in the fight for the 'Pichichi'.

Messi is currently leading the standings with 24 goals, three ahead of his Barcelona team-mate Luis Suarez (21). Ronaldo is another three behind (18) but could take second place if he scores a hat-trick against Sunday's La Liga opponent: Girona.

Without a doubt, it will be his motivation for the final stretch of the season, a small consolation given how far Madrid are behind their league rivals in the table (15 points).

To be the overall top goalscorer in Europe will be a little more tricky though, especially after Mohamed Salah's four-goal exhibition against Watford on Saturday.

However, beating Messi will be his first priority and what better way to start than against Girona, a team who has so far escaped Ronaldo's goalscoring prowess. Another incentive.
