Ronaldo is 90 minutes away from worst ever La Liga start

No one doubts him. Cristiano Ronaldo has shot off the mark in the Champions League, but struggled to find his form in the Spanish league, and has not scored in the 180 minutes he has played so far.

With this drought of two whole games (he missed the first four through suspension), Ronaldo is just 90 minutes away from confirming his worst start to a domestic campaign since arriving at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Portuguese star was far from his best in his first league game against Real Betis and the same can be said of the victory at the Mendizorroza stadium. In fact, in that 2-1 win over Alaves, secured by Dani Ceballos' winner, Ronaldo hit the woodwork twice. He played well, but was lacking accuracy.

However, this small drought is in stark contrast to his performances in the Champions League. The four time Ballon d'Or winner grabbed braces against APOEL at the Bernabeu and then Dortmund at the Signal Iduna Park. Those goals suggest he's just as lethal as ever before.

So, Ronaldo's aims are clear: score this Sunday against Espanyol. Madrid will welcome the Catalan side, who they have a very positive record against, to the Bernabeu and so it would be surprising if the forward doesn't open his account for the season in gameweek 7.

The former Manchester United man will be itching to find the back of the net and end any talk of this 'worst start' which is close to becoming a reality.
