The relationship between the pair can only be described as a roller-coaster ride, but they will have to put their differences aside if they are reunited in the Premier League.

Manchester United are poised to make a move for Cristiano Ronaldo, following the growing speculation regarding the striker's future away from the Bernabeu. The Portuguese hotshot already enjoyed a spell at Old Trafford from 2003 to 2009, before joining the 'Blancos' for a then-world-record fee.

After eight years at the Spanish club, and many triumphs which include winning the Champions League three times and claiming the Ballon d'Or the same number of times, it all points towards an inevitable goodbye for the Portugal captain.

One of his favoured destinations is Old Trafford, which would see him reunited with his former Madrid boss and fellow countryman, Jose Mourinho.

The pair had a fractious relationship during Mourinho's time in charge at the Bernabeu, and the clashes and exchanges between the two big personalities were no rarity in the dressing room.

The last public image of Mourinho and Ronaldo came in the last home game of the 2012/13 season, when the couple deliberately avoided eye contact in the players' tunnel, following months of ill-feeling between the two.

'Work with Mourinho again? Why not?', Ronaldo stated back in 2015, with Mourinho also prepared to bite his tongue for the good of the Old Trafford club.

We will have to wait and see Ronaldo's final decision; could the Portuguese couple enjoy a second spell without rubbing each other up the wrong way?
