The most eye-catching of the eight ties in this round of the Champions League will take place on Wednesday, with Europe's most successful team pitted against another looking to create a legacy of their own.

The first leg of this crunch round of 16 tie will be held at the Santiago Bernabeu, where Paris Saint-Germain will attempt to establish a new order by beating the reigning champions and achieve continental glory for the first time since their money-spinning Qatari takeover seven years ago.

A third successive European triumph would salvage a disappointing season for Zinedine Zidane so far, with their wheels coming off in domestic competitions. 'Los Blancos' desperately cling onto the hope of being in Kiev on May 26.

Zinedine Zidane's mind was in the PSG clash when he picked his lineup for the La Liga game against Real Sociedad on Saturday; Casemiro and Bale were on the bench, and Luka Modric came off too, suggesting all three will play. The 'bbc' is posed to start, with Karim Benzema looking rediscover his goalscoring form to give him the confidence he needs.

Focus will mainly be on Neymar, primarily because he's dazzled for the Ligue 1 giants since his summer switch form Barcelona, but also because of speculation linking him with a move to the Bernabeu, a stadium where the Brazilian feels very much at home.

Dani Carvajal is the only senior absentee for the hosts, as he is suspended for the first leg, while Dani Ceballos is a slight doubt with an ankle problem and fellow youngster Jesus Vallejo is missing with a hamstring injury. They still made the squad list released by Zidane on Tuesday. Gareth Bale should start after struggling with injuries this season.

A number of injury doubts could see former Real Madrid duo Lassana Diarra and Angel Di Maria back in contention against their former employers. Thiago Motta was left out of the squad list for the Bernabeu and a hip injury could see striker Edinson Cavani miss out. Lavyin Kurzawa and Hatem Ben Arfa are also likely to miss out for the visitors.

Potential lineups:

Real Madrid: Navas; Nacho, Ramos, Varane, Marcelo; Kroos, Casemiro, Modric; Bale, Benzema, Ronaldo

PSG: Kevin Trapp; Alves, T. Silva, Marquinhos, Meunier; Lassana Diarra, Rabiot, Verratti; Neymar,  Cavani, Mbappe
