Real Madrid, who were second in the La Liga standings after Barça's win over Mallorca, had the chance to return to the top with a win over Osasuna. However, a brave 10-man Osasuna prevented Ancelotti's side from taking all three points.

The fight for the top of the La Liga standings is on fire. Real Madrid missed the chance to move two points clear of Barcelona after a surprising draw against Osasuna at home.

The first half was hard fought. Real Madrid had possession of the ball but struggled to create chances due to Osasuna's good defence. The 'Merengues' went into the break with the lead thanks to Vinicius' goal.

In the 38th minute, the home side gave Osasuna a warning as Benzema had a great chance. Vinicius received with space and drove the ball until he got inside the box and crossed to the far post. The striker Benzema, unmarked, hit a superb volley that went wide grazing the post.

Four minutes later, the 'Merengues' took the lead. Vinicius crossed to the far post from the right flank, and Rudiger's move confused Sergio Herrera, who was unable to save the ball and gave Arrasate's side a hard blow.

However, Osasuna did not give up and managed to equalise. Unai crossed from the right flank and Kike Garcia's header into the top corner beat Lunin. Ancelotti reacted to the visitors' goal by replacing Tchouameni and Ceballos by Camavinga and Valverde.

Ancelotti's side had the chance to take the lead again after the VAR corrected the referee's decision and a penalty was awarded in Real Madrid's favour. David Garcia was sent off for a straight red card. However, Benzema's penalty kick hit the crossbar.

The 'Merengues' tried until the last minute but could not score the winning goal and now sit level on points with Barça.
