Real Madrid were knocked out of the Champions League at Manchester City. Varane had a game to forget and Sergio Ramos was suspended. The captain has written his final message of the 2019-20 season on social media.

The Etihad Stadium was the venue where Real Madrid ended their season. 'Los Blancos' went to Manchester looking to overturn a 2-1 deficit from the first leg, but two errors by centre-back Varane cost them dearly.

Sergio Ramos was unavailable for the game, but the captain travelled with all of his teammates to cheer his team on from the first until the last minute of the encounter. In fact, the Spaniard was seen giving a speech before the game got underway.

Real Madrid's coronavirus hit season came to an end. Real Madrid fans were waiting for a message from the captain and it arrived.

"An extremely strange season is over and the taste is bittersweet. This year has been very hard on everyone. But we are Real Madrid and we were set to win everything. Credit must be given to winning the Liga under such exceptional circumstances and the Spanish Supercup. However, being eleminated from the Champions League leaves us with a bitter aftertaste," Ramos wrote. The defender emphasised the fact they had won La Liga without losing a game post COVID-19.

He also thanked all the fans and said the team would once again fight on all fronts next season.

"We wanted more. Now it is time to rest to come back and fight for the next season. This badge and this history always deserve it all. In victory, in defeat, always: HALA MADRID. Thank you for your unconditional support, even in the distance," he concluded.
