Owen would be 'pleased' if City win the Premier League
In an article for the 'Daily Mail', former Liverpool forward Michael Owen has offered high praise for Pep Guardiola's footballing approach.
With a growing culture of "the end justifying the means", most Premier League teams , even those with talented players, seem to be increasingly parking the bus in matches, instead trying to nick a goal rather than create a winning spectacle.
However, according the 'BT Sport' pundit, City's Spanish manager refuses to do this. Instead trying to play an "attacking brand of football which shoud be applauded", despite the criticisms of their defending.
To Owen, this is the "basic essence of football - to excite people and make fans want to go to the game." There is "no special skill" in buying brilliant players and setting them up conservatively to stifle a game.
He goes on to say: "What Guardiola is trying to create at City is true genius. I would be pleased [as a football fan] if City won the Premier League. There's just an overwhelming positivity [around the Etihad] and that is because [the manager] improves players."
Manchester City play Liverpool in an eagerly-awaited clash on Sunday, with the 'Sky Blues' unbeaten all season and Jurgen Klopp's side unbeaten in the last thirteen league games.
