West Brom have completed the signing of former England midfielder Gareth Barry from Premier League rivals Everton.

The veteran, who is just five appearances away from beating Ryan Giggs' all-time Premier League appearance record has signed an initial one-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

The 36-year-old had one year remaining on his contract at Goodison Park, where he had spent four seasons since initially joining on loan from Manchester City.

Albion boss Tony Pulis is hoping that Barry can fill the void created by Darren Fletcher's move to Stoke earlier this summer.

The Welshman told the Albion club website: “There was a big void when we lost ‘Fletch’ and Gareth will fill that void.

“He’s a fantastic player and I think his attitude towards playing is really gauged by the fact that Everton had offered him a two-year contract to stay there.

“He really wants to play and I’m really looking forward to working with him.”

The 53-time England international said that he is hoping to be able to help his new side improve.

“I want to come and help the team. That’s always been the same for me wherever I have played.

“I want to help the team improve, work hard and hopefully add quality."
