Athletic confirmed the renewal of Nico Williams' contract for 3 more seasons. He is now guaranteed until 2027. The club, in its statement, acknowledges that there were several clubs in Europe keen to sign him, including Barcelona.

Nico Williams is not leaving Bilbao. In the midst of his rise with the Spanish national team and Athletic, where he is an indispensable player, the club announced his renewal for three more seasons, until 2027. He was only tied until 2024 and suitors, such as Barcelona, had been contacting his agents to talk about a possible signing at zero cost next summer.

It will not happen. The 'Leonesreported on Friday that they have reached a deal with the 21-year-old winger, who grew up with his family in the Basque Country. In fact, he shares a squad with his brother Inaki, another of the most beloved players at San Mames. They form one of the most striking partnerships in La Liga.

"Athletic Club and Nico Williams have reached an agreement to extend for three seasons, until 30 June 2027, the contract that was due to expire at the end of the current season. The international is close to 100 appearances as an Athletic player (96) at just 21 years of age, leads the list of assists in the league competition (5) and 9 of his 13 goals with the first team were scored last season", reads the published text.

Athletic acknowledges in its second paragraph that Nico Williams was generating attention in other sporting directions. "The club has renewed for three years a player for whom very powerful clubs in Europe have been dreaming of. However, Nico Williams has opted to continue making history at Athletic", states the notification, which seals the continuity of one of the present and future figures of 'La Catedral' and of the national team on the road to the European Championship in Germany.
