The La Liga match between Granada and Athletic, which was 0-1 in favour of Valverde's side, had to be suspended after 18 minutes because a fan of the Andalusian team suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest.

The La Liga matchday 16 fixture between Granada and Athletic was suspended on Sunday, with 0-1 on the scoreboard, after the death of a person who felt unwell in the stands of the Nuevo Los Carmenes stadium, according to La Liga.

The match was interrupted from just after half past four o'clock, with the definitive suspension confirmed just over an hour later.

A man of approximately 70 years of age began to convulse in the stands of the first seating area, the victim of a heart attack with cardiorespiratory arrest, which caused numerous fans in that area to alert the medical services.

Referee Ortiz Ariasmade an attempt to stop the match a few moments before and stopped it definitively in the 18th minute at the request of the Granada bench and Athletic goalkeeper Unai Simon.

In the 38th minute, after twenty minutes of stoppage time, Ortiz Arias sent the teams to the dressing rooms, while the public address system announced that the match was stopped while a person in the stands was being treated for an emergency.

"Health care is being carried out in the stands. There is one person in serious condition. He is still being resuscitated and it is not possible to transfer him because he is not stable," the club informed the media at the time.

At the time of the suspension, in the 18th minute of the first half, the score was 0-1 in Athletic Club's favour thanks to a goal by Inaki Williams in the sixth minute.
