Ajax made official this Wednesday the signing of the 18 year-old Giovanni Manson, in an transfer which saw FIFA get involved. They intervened because Santos did not want to let the player go.

The Dutch side went to FIFA because both Santos and the Brazilian FA prevented the transfer, Ajax said in a statement.

The player's Santos contract ended in January because Manson declined to sign his first professional contract there despite the fact he was offered it.

From Brazil, they interpreted that his departure to Amsterdam went against FIFA rules. They say  that the club which the player comes through has priority when it comes to offering the footballer his first professional contract.

However, FIFA have given the move the all clear. However, Ajax must pay Santos 500,000 euros in compensation, according to the Dutch paper 'De Telegraaf'.

Manson has signed until summer 2024 and he normally plays as an attacking midfielder. He will be begin in the Ajax B team.

The move takes place two weeks after the Amsterdam club signed another Brazilian from Sao Paulo. He was Antony Matheus dos Santos for 15.75 million plus six million in variables.
