'My level at Barca has not been what I wanted it to be'
Oriol Romeu, ahead of Catalonia's friendly against Panama, reviewed his time at Barcelona. "It hasn't been a good season, my level hasn't been what I wanted it to be," he said frankly.
Barcelona midfielder Oriol Romeu said on Wednesday, after training with the Catalan national team ahead of the friendly against Panama in Sabadell, that "it has not been a good season" for him and that, despite his predisposition and hard work, "the level has not been what I wanted".
Romeu added that he does not know what this summer will bring, whether he will stay at Barca or leave the club, and admitted that "when you get older you want to enjoy yourself on the pitch and that is the priority for next year", although he recalled that he has two more years on his contract.
"When a new coach comes in there are always movements and there are always new developments, and we have to wait to see what the club says and the intentions of each one to choose the best," he said in reference to the departure of Xavi Hernandez and the arrival of Hansi Flick.
He stressed that both the staff and the coaching staff have been "professional until the last day" and have reacted "well" in a situation that ‘was not easy to manage’.
When asked about Girona, Romeu congratulated Michel Sanchez's team for their season: "It has been a pleasure to watch the team".
