Morata left out of Spain squad announcement

Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata has had an underwhelming debut season in England. Diego Costa, the man Morata replaced at Chelsea, has pipped him to the national side spot.

The 25-year-old joined Chelsea in a deal worth £60 million but has failed to impress at Stamford Bridge. In fact, he is yet to net for the Blues this calendar year. 

Costa, on the other hand, is enjoying a new lease of life at Atlético, scoring 6 goals in 13 games since rejoining the club in January. 

Morata's Chelsea team-mate Marcos Alonso has been named in Julen Lopetegui's squad for the first-time. The left-back will be hoping to get his first cap for his country.

Notable absentees from the squad are Cesc Fabregas, Javi Martinez and Sergio Busquets. The Barcelona man misses out through injury.
