MLS confirms three-match suspension for Luis Suarez for spitting at a Seattle staff member during the Leagues Cup final, to be served in domestic competition, adding to the six already imposed in that tournament.

Major League Soccer (MLS) has handed Luis Suarez, the Uruguayan forward for Inter Miami, a three-match ban for spitting at a member of the Seattle Sounders' coaching staff during the Leagues Cup final. The 'Pistolero' had already been suspended for six additional matches in the same competition.

Suárez, 38, will now miss the entirety of the 2026 Leagues Cup and will be unavailable for Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano in the MLS clashes against Charlotte, Sounders, and DC United.

"At the end of the match, Inter Miami player Luis Suarez was reported by the match officials for spitting at a member of the Seattle Sounders' coaching staff. In accordance with Article 4.2.C of the 2025 Leagues Cup Competition Regulations, the Disciplinary Committee has imposed a six-match suspension on Suárez. Consequently, he will not be able to participate in at least the next edition of the Leagues Cup until the full sanction has been served," the competition organisers stated.

On Monday, the MLS Disciplinary Committee ordered the additional suspension, which Suarez must serve this year. Inter Miami lost the final 3-0 against the Sounders, a match played in Seattle on August 31st.
