Reports claim that Manchester United playmaker Juan Mata has turned down a big-money offer from the Chinese Super League and could be set to extend his stay with the club instead.

English publication 'The Mirror' reports that the Spanish international's agent has been approached by representatives of several CSL sides, all of whom were offering to improve on the player's current £165,000 pay packet.

However, the 29-year-old is not interested in such a move and would prefer to remain with United.

The creative midfielder has less than a year left on his contract at Old Trafford, but along with fellow countryman Ander Herrera, the club have the option to extend his deal by a further 12 months.

The same source claims that despite having started only one game so far this season, Herrera will also be rewarded with a new deal as a demonstration of Jose Mourinho's faith in the player.

Herrera is expected to start in Saturday's trip to Anfield and despite having fallen down the pecking order somewhat, he remains a key part of Mourinho's squad.

Mata meanwhile is eager to show that he still has plenty to offer in his preferred attacking midfield role, having been shifted out onto the right in recent weeks.
