Manchester City thrashed Quique Sanchez Flores' Watford this Saturday, in what was an 8-0 victory, making it the biggest thrashing in the history of the Premier League. They are now catching up on leaders Liverpool, who play Chelsea on Sunday night.

The football performance of Pep Guardiola's players meant that within the first 18 minutes, they were already 5-0 up, against opponents who didn't know how to respond. After David Silva scored in the second minute of the game, after a small cross into the box from Kevin De Bruyne.

Kun Aguero scored a penlaty, Mahrez's goal from a foul, Bernardo Silva's header and Otamendi in the run of play, all contributing to Manchester City's 8 goals before the madness of their fanbase at the Etihad stadium. Although the pace slowed a little, the goals didn't stop coming in the second half, as Eric Garcia made his Premier League debut. Bernardo Silva got a hat trick and De Bruyne finished it off after a long pass from the right hand side.

Manchester City have now overtook the previous record for the biggest thrashing in the Premier League, a 7-0 victory at Norwich in the 2013/14 season. They have also previously thrashed Watford with a 0-6 victory for Guardiola's club in 2017/18. The victory on Saturday put them just 2 points away from leaders Liverpool, who face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday night.
