Alexis Sanchez has been repeatedly linked with a move to Manchester City, but the Premier League leaders could risk losing the Chilean as they balk at Arsenal's demands.

It is understood that Arsenal want £35million for Alexis Sanchez, while agents are likely to receive an extra £5million on top. The total transfer would cost Manchester City a total £40million without taking tha player's wages into account.

However, the Citizens are unwilling to go beyond a £20million fee for the Chile international, who could join the Etihad outfit on a free once his contract expires at the end of the season.

The Premier League leaders feel the overall price for signing the Chile forward this month, including transfer fee, agent costs and wage demands, is currently too high and must be lowered.

Manchester United are looking to swoop in with a last-minute deal to hijack Guardiola's plans, and City's mulishness will see them risk losing the player altogether.

Alexis Sanchez is keen to leave Arsenal in the current transfer window in order to link up with former manager Pep Guardiola, but a tempting offer from Old Trafford could see him join Jose Mourinho's side.

City are prepared to walk away from a deal to sign Sánchez, even if this stance opens up a route for another club, even arch-rivals Manchester United, to step in for the 29-year-old.
