Real Madrid have been one of the teams that has coped and continues to cope with the impact imposed by the coronavirus pandemic. The club, far from signing anyone, have focused on selling so that they can finally bring in a superstar - either Mbappe or Haaland.
During an exposition of La Liga's financial data, president Javier Tebas explained that Real Madrid are one of the clubs that have coped best with the impact of COVID-19. The club, before coronavirus had even arrived, invested heavily before shutting up shop.
In 2019, Madrid managed to spend around 300 million euros on signings on big names such as Hazard, Jovic, Militao, Mendy, Rodrygo and Reinier. While not all of them have turned out exactly as hoped, the club haven't committed to any more signings since that point.
Spanish daily 'Marca' recapped how, since then, Madrid have not spent anything on transfers. Instead, they have focused on selling players in the midst of a pandemic and also with another plan in mind - to sign a world superstar, such as Mbappe or Haaland. In fact, the club are approaching the sixth year in their history without spending a single euro in the market.
Players such as Hakimi, Reguilon, Varane and very shortly Odegaard, as well as a number of other minor outgoings, have all left Real Madrid with a whopping 200 million euros in their budget, meaning the accounts more than add up.
With the amount gained from sales, Madrid have more than enough money to use on signing the much-coveted Kylian Mbappe, whose future is yet to reach its conclusion with less than two weeks of the transfer window remaining. If he doesn't leave PSG this summer, Madrid will wait another year when the gain would be double, given that the Frenchman would enter the Bernabeu as a free agent.
