Luis Suarez named Brasileirao Player of the Season

ESPN' gave Luis Suarez the 'Bola de Oro' award, an award that recognises him as the best player of the season in the Brazilian league.

Gremio striker Luis Suarez won the 'Bola de Oro' award on Thursday, which recognises the best player of the Brazilian Championship.

Suarez, who also won the best striker award, scored 17 goals in the Brasileirao and was the main contributor in leading his team to second place in the championship.

"At almost 37 years old, it has been the year I have played the most games in my career, the year I have spent the most time away from my wife and children. The award is for them," Suarez said in a brief speech.

Suarez made 42 appearances over the course of the season, scoring 22 goals, providing 14 assists and winning the Rio Grande do Sul regional title, as well as a successful second-place finish in the league, in a year in which Gremio had just been promoted to the first division.
