Liverpool fan groups have released a statement asking for a cap on the price of away tickets for their side's Champions League quarter-final against Manchester City.

Liverpool supporters faced largely inflated prices for their trips to Sevilla and Porto earlier in the competition, and with the price of travel to Spain and Portugal included, it made it very expensive for fans to support their side in the competition.

After making it to the quarter-finals, and drawing fellow English side Manchester City, supporter groups have asked both Liverpool and City to cap away ticket prices at £30 for the two-legged tie.

The Spion Kop 1906 and Spirit of Shankly groups united to demand that the two clubs use the revenue gained from the teams making it to this stage in the tournament to facilitate the fan experience. They asked the clubs to impliment a cap similar to the one imposed on Premier League away games, which was introduced in response to Liverpool fans protesting about prices at Anfield last season.

"Given the escalated ticket prices for travelling supporters so far in this season's competition, there is an opportunity here to send a strong statement on the value of supporters beyond money," read a statement posted on spiritofshankly.com.

"Both Liverpool and City will receive significantly large sums of revenue for reaching this stage of the Champions League, and we ask this be shared with supporters."

"We ask that both clubs look at their pricing for this fixture. As an example, away tickets for Premier League games are capped at a maximum of £30 and we hope this can be reciprocated for these two fixtures."

The first leg of the quarter-final clash will be played at Anfield on April 4, as Manchester City continue their hunt for a treble. The 'Sky Blues' have already secured the League Cup, and look set to walk away with the Premier League, but have never won the Champions League.
