Takefusa Kubo spoke to 'Movistar' on Wednesday after losing 2-0 to Paris Saint-Germain in a Champions League last-16 tie. The Japanese blamed himself for Kylian Mbappe's opener for not preventing him from scoring.
Takefusa Kubo is disappointed with himself because he thinks Kylian Mbappe's opener was his fault even though he was among Real Sociedad's best in the first half of their Champions League last-16 first leg in Paris.
PSG broke the deadlock on 58 minutes as Ousmane Dembele's corner from the right was helped on by Marquinhos towards the back post where Mbappe turned it in.
It was a 31st goal of the campaign in all competitions, and a fourth in the Champions League, for the France captain who is widely tipped to move to Real Madrid after this season.
"The 1-0 was my fault. I thought Igor [Zubeldia] was going to win the ball, I went out for the second play, but it bounced off the back of I don't know who and, at that moment, Mbappe, being quick, took two metres off me and scored," Kubo told 'Movistar'.
He went on to add: "Personally, I feel very guilty because, until that goal, we were playing a very good game. We were a man down, it was clear to me that I had to score, but it was a mental lapse on my part and, in these games, these little things change your life."
