Klopp confident in-form Firmino can soften Coutinho blow

After the £142m move of star man Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona in January, many critics claimed that Liverpool's attacking threat would diminish. However, 'Reds' boss Jurgen Klopp doesn't agree, especially if Brazilian Roberto Firmino maintains his current form.

Following his outstanding performance against formerly-unbeaten Manchester City on Sunday, the 26-year-old has netted 17 times this season, 10 of which have come in the Premier League.

This prolific rate may mean that the 'Reds' can move on more quickly from Coutinho's departure, especially if team-mates Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane can continue their good run of form too.

The German boss has been a long time admirer of his Brazilian forward because of his hard running and ability to press at the head of the attack

Speaking ahead of Liverpool's trip to bottom side Swansea City on Monday, Klopp said: "I don't think that it's possible that somebody could get more credit, compliments, praise, whatever you want to say as Roberto gets from us".

"But it's well deserved - everything. He's a fantastic football player. You see him in training and think 'what a work ethic, what an attitude', and he brings it on the pitch as well."

He concluded: "[It's] nice to have him around - better to have him than in the other team. That's maybe the best thing you can say about a football player".

Firmino has scored 31 times and provided 19 assists in 88 league apperances since his £29m move from Hoffenheim in 2015 and is 11 short of becoming the Premier League's highest-scoring Brazilian, a title which is currently held by former team-mate Coutinho with 41.

Liverpool will be hoping that their 14-game unbeaten streak continues against Swansea on Monday as the Merseyside club look to maintain their position in the automatic Champions League qualifying positions.
