Joan Gaspart, former FC Barcelona president, spoke about the Ernesto Valverde's sacking and wanted to make it clear that he would not have made this decision.

Ernesto Valverde's sacking and the way FC Barcelona gone about it have created a big debate aroung the Catalan club.

The latest important voice in having his say on the matter was Joan Gaspart, former President and the last one to dismiss a coach halfway through the season.

Gaspart wanted to make it clear that he would not have made this decision and that the situation was very different in 2003 with Louis van Gaal, who was the coach at the time.

"We had disastrous results and I spoke with Mr. Van Gaal to tell him that he could not continue because we were closer to the Second Division than we were to winning La Liga," he started telling 'RAC1'.

"Would I have sacked Valverde? No. I respect what the Board of Directos have done and I hope that Barca do well and that from now on everything goes well. But Valverde won two La Ligas," he explained.

Finally, the former President wanted to break the ice about Barca's European setbacks and said that there were other people to blame, not just Valverde.

"We cannot always think about Roma and Liverpool. The coach is not the only one to blame. It's easier to change him than the players, but they are the ones who win and lose games," he finished.
