Swedish striker Alexander Isak has suffered a muscle injury which will see him out until at least after the World Cup.

Swedish striker Alexander Isak has suffered a muscle injury which will see him sidelined until after the World Cup, at the earliest.

Isak, who cost Newcastle around £‎60 million in the last transfer window, will not be at the World Cup with Sweden, as the side did not manage to qualify, which will allow him to recover for club football to return at Christmas.

Thr striker got injured this week in training, re-doing an old muscle injury which he had already suffered in the past.

"I do not think we are going to see Alex back playing before the World Cup. He has suffered the same injury he had in the past. It is very frustrating for a player like him, who is new to the league. I think he was adapting well", his manager Eddie Howe said in a press conference.

After leaving Real Sociedad, Isak has played three times for Newcaslte in the Premier League, scoring twice.
